Mima vs. Mima

It’s like high school all over again. Living in eastern Canada, I had a very popular name (first and last that is; don’t even get me started on how many other Michelles are out there) and as it turns out, I shared it with two other girls in my high school. Of course, they were brunettes, while I was blonde; they spoke French, I didn’t. They were probably normal, I wasn’t.

Regardless, it was frustrating to me that I didn’t have my own individual name but had to share it with two other girls. I had a similar situation in one of my previous work environment, however, as an adult, it didn’t bother me as much as it had back in high school.

So fast forward to 2010, when my first book was published. Interestingly enough, one of the reasons why I chose to have a pen name was because of the fact that my real name was so common I chose Mima because it was an arrangement of my initials and actually thought it would be kind of weird to just randomly, out of the blue, pick a pen name that just sounded cool or whatever makes people pick specific pseudonymsI’m not really sure how the process works for most writers. So I looked up ‘Mima’ and at the time, didn’t find any conflicts regarding the name, so decided to go with it.

I would later discover that there was, in fact, another author with the same pen name who wrote erotica. Fortunately, I think our writing is very different so readers would be able to spot the difference. Who knows? Perhaps it will help bring us each some new readers!
